Even Heroes Need Heroes
Members of Team DMS
Despite working tirelessly and facing unimaginable risks, veterans and first responders make the impossible happen every day. The DMS Heroes & Legends Ultramarathon was a moment to show our support and recognize their incredible contributions. The DMS team ran relay-style, passing the Heroes & Legends baton until the job was done.
I’m running to honor all veterans and first responders. The overall cause of the foundation and the
purpose it serves to support veterans and first responders in need is my main inspiration. First
responders and defenders are the brave souls that fight to keep us all safe and protected. Often
times too many go in need after they have served or experienced injury, and it isn’t fair that they
face these challenges after all of the sacrifices they have made.
I'm looking forward to the comradery of this event and seeing what an impact this brings to the lives of our heroes. I am just coming off half marathon training, so I will continue to keep up on my training runs and add cross training in. I’ll also look to keep my workouts spread apart in the same timespan as this race.
I really enjoy running and have a “sure, why not” attitude toward most things. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to get to know people at DMS who work in offices other than Philly. To train for this event, I'm continuing to run regularly.
I'm running in honor of my grandfather, John Hinchliffe, who fought in WWII. And my husband, Will Bryan,
who was in the Navy for 20 years. I was an athlete all my life but allowed myself to get out of shape after
having children. This race is the opportunity and motivation I needed to get moving again.
I’m looking forward to being in the midst of my run, feeling great and knowing that I am achieving this feat with my DMS team. I've been running and getting in better shape overall. I’m using the Nike Run Club app. The trainers on it keep me entertained and motivated to keep going.
I'm running in honor of James Messenger (1st responder, FDNY). I'm excited to be a part of a really cool life experience: to run a race and bond with my peers outside the office. I love to compete. I'm looking forward to finishing and crushing my time. To train, I'll plan to do my usual training regimen with some additional distance runs.
I'm running in honor of Matthew Coates (currently active duty). I'm inspired by him to push myself past
the limits that I am currently comfortable with.
In the ultramarathon, I'm eager to prove to myself that I am able to obtain any goal that I set. I am currently running 3 to 4 miles per day during the week and attempting to run a full 6 miles Saturday and Sunday.
I am running in honor of Harry Dell, my great uncle who fought in Germany in WW2. I was inspired to
participate in the race because I saw it as an opportunity to work towards a new personal goal and
support the team in the process.
I’m looking forward to creating more memories with Team DMS! To train for this event I’m going on distance runs and kickboxing.
I would like to run in honor of my Poppy, Bob Palmer who served in Panama. Taking on what seems impossible
to honor and bring attention to the people who keep us safe every day is a more than worthy reason to take on
this grueling race.
I am looking forward to spending time with other DMS team members and the feeling of accomplishment once we complete our final leg. I am also looking forward to participating in an event for the Gary Sinise Foundation, as this is an incredible cause. When the event was announced, I began a running training program in order to build endurance and train to keep my speed consistently below pace.
I'm inspired to participate in this ultramarathon because running stimulates my mind. I'm looking forward to pushing myself past all possible artificial limits. I am training every day on the Peloton machines in preparation for this event.
I am running in honor and memory of my father-in-law Sherman Smith, who was a U.S. military veteran.
I love an adventure and especially a challenge! I participated in our company’s
Race Across America team in 2016 and am looking forward to running with Team DMS in the Heroes & Legends Ultramarathon.
I’m looking forward to running at sea level (I’m from Utah) and looking forward to making better friendships with coworkers and pushing myself hard for a good cause. To train, I've been running indoors on the dreadmill for now, until the snow clears. Then as much outdoor training as I can.
My husband, Larry Levine, was a first responder in New York, Boston and Los Angeles, so I always try
to participate in events that will help first responders and their families, such as Run to Remember LA.
I look forward to having fun and making a difference in others’ lives in a positive way. I’m a runner, so I’m always training.
I'm running in honor of Joe Shinners, a Provo, UT Police Officer who died in the line of duty on Jan. 5th.
I'm currently at a particularly low point in my life right now. I'm going through a divorce. I've been
stress-eating and avoiding emotional issues. I thought I was treading water, but I think I've actually
been slowly sinking the past few years. This race immediately struck me as something that could inspire
me to get back into a healthy lifestyle, both body and mind.
I'm most looking forward to the finish line to prove to myself that I'm capable of positive change. I am following a 4-week 10k prep plan. I started meal prepping on the weekends, so I'm not just grabbing whatever fast food tickles my tummy bone at the time. Also, I'm cutting out non-diet sodas. Goodbye, Dr. Pepper, my love.
I'm running in honor of Jim Duffin — Navy Veteran. My grandfather, father, brother and I all served in the United States Navy, so giving back to our veterans is an important part of my life. To prepare for this ultramarathon, I work out 7 days a week and run 2 miles so I will be increasing my time and miles each day to pace for the 5–10 mile segments.
My father, Warren Ball, was in the Navy. I'm inspired to run in this ultramarathon to help people and acknowledge first responders. I'm looking forward to working as a group to accomplish a larger goal. I run with a frequency that should enable me to add value to this race.
I'm running in honor of Anthony “Casey” Montagano. I'm inspired by the DMS Team and the challenge. To train for the Heroes & Legneds Ultramarathon, I’m out running in the cold of San Francisco at least one day a week and then treadmill training another day or two. Then I work in bike, boxing, basketball and additional HIIT training on the other days in between runs.
